Over the past decade, the Johnston Community School District has an increase of 200 students enrolling each year. Due to this rapid increase, we have built two other buildings in the past decade and remodeled two elementary buildings and. Timber Ridge is the fifth addition to the elementary schools in Johnston. Their phone number is 515 278-6977. Henry A. Wallace was born on October 7, 1888. He lived on a farm near Orient, Adair County, Iowa. He went to public schools in Adair County, Iowa. In 1910 Henry graduated from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. the school is named after him.

There are many Trails and Parks. Terra Park offers walking trails, bird watching and a lodge and a picnic shelter. It is a park located on Pioneer Parkway. The Simpson Barn is a restored barn located at 6169 Northglenn Drive. Located at the corner of Merle Hay Road and Beaver Drive, this park offers a relaxing green space among large oak trees. This park is adjacent to the bicycle/pedestrian path system. Ray Schleihs Park is located on NW 55th Avenue, between Merle Hay Road and Beaver Drive. It has open space and access to the Johnston Inter-Urban Trail. Prairie Point Crossing is located along Johnston Drive. It is an open space great for relaxing after a day of biking. Morningside Park is a neighborhood park located in the Northglenn Neighborhood. There is children play equipment, a gazebo and access to recreational trails. To access the park use Northglenn Dr along Johnston Drive.
Lew Clarkson Park, previously know as Creekside Park, was named for long-time Johnston resident and developer, Lew Clarkson. Clarkson started the Johnston Little League in the mid-1950′s as well as the incorporation of the City of Johnston. Lew Clarkson Park is located at NW 54th Avenue. Iti s large parkof 55-acres close to Beaver Creek. It has a playground, picnic shelter, a restroom, access to the Beaver Creek, Beaver Creek Greenbelt Trail and connections to the Green Meadows West recreation trail. It is also home to Johnston Little League and Johnston Girls Softball Association. Pointe Vista Park is a neighborhood park in the Newport Vista/Ashton Pointe neighborhoods. It is located along NW 97th Street. The park has open space for visitors, trails, two playground areas, access to a pond, and a sledding hill in the winter.
This is a 23-acre linear park with a preschool aged playground that includes new concrete trails through the Green Meadows neighborhood. Dewey Park is another neighborhood park that has play equipment, soccer field, backstop, basketball, picnic area/shelters, walking trails, restrooms and off-street parking. The playgrounds include a 2 to 5 year old ADA accessible play structure with decks, slides and climbers and a large play structure for 5 to 12 year olds.
Crown Point Community Center is available for public rental for business meetings, weddings, and other types of parties and functions. The facilities include a full kitchen, two conference rooms, and a wrap-around deck. Outside there are two tennis courts and access to trails. Crown Point Community Center is located at 6300 Pioneer Parkway and is also the site of the Johnston Senior Dining Center. Reservations are available by contacting the Parks Department at 727-8091. Ceres Lake Park is located at the north end of the Green Meadows Greenbelt and includes a small lake. Adventure Ridge Park features playground equipment for children ages 2 to 5 years old and 5 to 12 years old, a picnic shelter, open space and trails. It is a five-acre neighborhood park located just west of NW 100th Street on Windsor Parkway.
